Childs Play Charity (2006)

Post by Spec8472 »

For those of you who are regular Penny Arcade readers, this probably isn't news to you.

Childs Play - The charity set up by the creators of the Penny Arcade webcomic is once again running it's annual charity drive.

This year it's expanded to several other countries: Australia, Britain, Canada, Egypt, as well as the USA.

My family has decided this year that we won't be buying gifts for each other, and are instead donating to various charities.

I'm promoting Childs Play because it appeals somewhat to the geek side of me (buying games and things for sick kids == cool).
Since 2003, gamers have banded together through registered Seattle-based charity, Child's Play. Over a million dollars in donations of toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children's hospitals across North America and the world have been collected since our inception.

We collect no administrative fees or other charges, 100% of all gifts and donations go directly to our partner hospitals, to help make life a little brighter for a sick child.
FWIW - They have the Tulane Hospital for Children (New Orleans) on there too -- your own little bit of Subjugation related-ness ;)

I'll second the idea of Child's Play.

It's a very cool program they run, and it does help a lot of people. If I hadn't already spent most of my money helping to send my little brother to China for treatments, I'd be donating this year to them.
Ignorance is bliss, knowledge is power. Are the powerful very unhappy?

Support my brother.

Update from Penny Arcade on other ways to donate, even if you have no money...
So it’s Friday and I have another Child’s Play update for you. We’ve added up all the toys and cash donations again and you guys are not going to believe where we are now. Remember that just last Friday the total was $260,000. Well as of today the new total is $495,000 in toys and cash! I’m not joking, you guys donated more than $230,000 in one fucking week! The crazy thing is it’s only the 8th of December. This is our fourth year running Child’s Play and you guys amaze me every single year.

Speaking of Child’s Play I want to point you all at GameTrailers.com. They’ve cooked up a really slick way of letting you support Child’s Play without actually spending a dime. So if you’ve wanted to help but you just don’t have the disposable income (we’ve all been there) this is your chance. GameTrailers has a sort of internal currency they call GTD (GameTrailers dollars). You earn GTD by participating in the site in all kinds of different ways. Watching videos, rating videos or even posting comments will net you GTD. Right now, for every 20 GTD that you donate through their site GameTrailers will donate one real dollar to Child’s Play. Your donation will also enter you in a raffle to win an Xbox 360. Their goal is $10,000 so hit their site and help them reach it.

Also, if you don’t see a hospital near you or you’re just having trouble picking a hospital to donate to please think about the Tulane Hospital for Children in New Orleans. I think we all know how bad they could use the help this year.

I just donated $20.00 US

I noticed that BC Children's Hosiptal is involved, that's awesome, I spent a lot of time there when I was little and they have lots of great staff there.
