Took me a couple days before had a chance to read this. Very cool, both in itself and because the new plot aspect is vaguely akin to one of my all-time favorite (and unfinished) stories, David R Palmer's Threshold.

It really is a VAGUE tie: similar start with a Terran exposed to an advanced race of aliens, and an overarching foe *kinda* like the one you just introduced, but the overlap pretty much ends there (his hero actually turns himself into a kind of dragon at one point!). Still, it'd add a comforting sense of closure to see how you end up resolving the end conflict he never got around to directly addressing. So extra thanks for that!
