Any BSG (re-imagined) Fans?

Post by Hearly »

I've been reading some of the fan fiction lately (fanfiction.net a great site) but something I actually thought about, and went back and re-watched the Mini-series.. How did the Cylons end up with spaceships? I mean I never really watched Caprica so I don't know if it was explained there, but my understanding from BSG and the Pilot of Caprica, was the Cylons were Foot soldiers..

Also if the Humans developed the ships why were they so radical from there normal ships?

Things that make you think....

There wasn't a specific explanation in either of them. Caprica didn't get far enough along to get there.

Cylons were built to fight wars - and because they're humanoid, they can do whatever a human can do. So, there's no reason they couldn't take military ships/etc.

The Base Stars, "Skinjobs", etc that you see in the miniseries are set some decades after the initial war - so were built by cylons. To go further into the why/wherefore would get into spoiler territory of the BSG series.

Yes, but what I'm getting at is the background of it, Humans created Cylons to fight there wars, even on BSG in the miniseries they had shots of the Museum it was going to be turned into and showed shots of the Cylon ships, the baseStar's Fighters, etc.. they really never went into why during the first Cylon war, (40ish years before the re-imagined series) they had a different type of ships and not Human ships.. Seems stupid for the Colonial Government to build them ships of a different type than what they already were building.. Hence why I kinda like the Original series where the Cylons weren't created by man but by some long dead Lizard race...

The cylon fleet was to act as a support fleet for the human military. They then stole them and other ships.

As far as why they would build different types of ships, if you were going to have a subgroup of the military (whether imbedded into the original military groups or not) composed of anthropomorphic robots/androids it makes sense to build ships and vessels tailored to them.

For instance, with fighters you don't have to deal with the problems of g-forces on the pilots, leading to different strength capabilities. To not build a fighter to take advantage of strengths would be foolish. Ships wouldn't have to deal with a lot of the logistical headaches (food, privacy, sleeping quarters, bathrooms, etc) and so a ship that isn't tailored would have 25-40% of its space taken by unnecessary waste. When you can cram more weapons or robotic fighters in that space, why would you do otherwise?
