Two books in the series so far Live Free or Die and the second Citadel (at present you can only get the ARC - Advance Readers Copy - available on the Baen website) of Citadel however its not far from the book that will be published in January. Both are definately a great read.
Where's the link? This is the "Links to Good Reading" thread right?
Here it is Live Free or Die.

For Citadel - follow the link above, search for John Ringo or Citadel and you'll find it. ARCs or Advanced Reader's Copies are 15 bucks... However I did pickup a electronic copy of Live Free or Die for 6 bucks off Baen's site. Another couple series I hope John Ringo returns to quickly is the Ghost series and the Voyage of the Space Bubble series. If your interested in these books check out http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/ and download the the cds, however it never hurts to buy a book or three - keeps the publisher going - I always buy any Baen book with a cd even if I don't care for the author. Yes I could download the cd, but this helps Baen realize that reader crack (free cds with lots of books on them) do sell books. :D

Let me introduce two amazing sources for the modern scholar to you - they are called google and wikipedia. About two minutes of search unearthed this, the Nights in audio format in arabic, and even a whole website dedicated to them.

Have fun!

The Fifth Imperium has just put up the new 1635 Eastern Front CD:

http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/23-T ... rnFrontCD/

It has the whole 1632 series up through 1635 The Dreeson Incident. It also has Eric Flints 2nd book with KD Wentworth in the Empire series: The Crucible of Empire and a couple of other new stories.

Thanks for posting that - I'd already asked my nephew to download the whole thing and bring it to me, which he did earlier this evening, so I leaned back, anticipating a great read (Okay, I listened to the audio version, but you get the picture.) Actually, over the last month I've listened to all of the 'Assiti Shards' - even Virginia DeMarce's latest - 'The Tangled Web' - so I thought I'd get a bit more 'past/future' history and perhaps a few answers to some of the many outstanding questions. Sadly, after I got to the end of 'Eastern Front' I was disappointed and I'm now left with even more questions than before. :?:

That's three books in a row of that series that I've felt could have been a lot better -- the Dreeson Incident , the Tangled Web and now the Eastern Front. Glad this ain't baseball, someone would have struck out! :( :?
(BTW, I see the sequel to Eastern Front will be coming soon -- so ????)

Thankfully Lyle also brought me 'Time Spike' by Marilyn Kosmatka (& Eric Flint) -- Now even after only having listened to a couple of chapters that sounds REALLY interesting. (And I know this one finishes - it has an Epilogue!) :)

Hah, just found my ear buds -- now I can listen without the night nurse getting all wound up about possibly disturbing others. Cya later.

Unfortunately the CD only has the Eastern Front Sample on it :) However there is also the upcoming Cryoburn CD, which will be the first CD issued with a Lois Bujold McMaster Vorkosgian book so hopefully that will have a haul of new stories on it.

AH, maybe what I got sent wasn't the complete book -- after all there were only 43 chapters -- and 32 of those I'd already read from Flint's 'dribblets'. :?

BTW, 'Time Spike' is VERY good!

Typically the CD's carry the name of the book they are either bound in or made as a promo for. Because of that they have to make the CD's well in advance of the final editing of the upcoming book so, the upcoming book doesn't get included, thus as an example the Mission of Honor CD doesn't have Mission of Honor on it (just every Honorverse story up until that one). So it would be the same for the Eastern Front CD. Also with you saying that you got only 43 chapters from Eastern Front that sound like it is only a little over half the book, since The Dreeson Incident on that CD has over 70 chapters in it.

Have to read Time Spike yet, just what I need more baen crack to get hooked on another author. I now own every one of the Paksenarrion universe books and it all started by harmlessly reading the "free" "Sheepfarmers Daughter' from the "free" library.

I asked about that, and just got an e-mail in reply. My nephew says what I have is called an "advanced reader copy" -- in other words it hasn't gone through the final edit, but it seems to be the full story. (I guess Baen sends this sort of thing out to selected readers who send back their proofing notes or something (??) -- in all honesty I don't understand Baen's publishing policy. Since I have it in audio format, there's no way I could really do any proof reading anyway, so ... ???) :?

(I just ordered the full CD of Eastern Front, so I'll know just what I have -- as soon as they ship the final copy that is.)

BTW, if you don't want to 'spoil' Eastern Front's plot -- DO NOT read the Dribblets posts for now. The very first one, posted last night contains a HUGE spoiler.

hmm that sounds strange, the only Advanced Reader Copies I know of are the Electronic Advanced Reader Copies (E-ARC) and they were not in audio versions. Of course that doesn't mean much, however I can clear this up for you Advanced Reader Copies are up for sale to anyone 3 to 5 months before the Hardcover comes out. They are, as your nephew said, the final draft from the author just waiting final editing. You can buy these E-Arcs for $15.00 and download. From there they get replaced for sale with the final edited version of the Ebook for between $3 to $6 usually. As an example I bought the E-ARC for Mission of Honor back in Feb when the Hardcover didn't go on sale until July.

Also if mistakes are found in any E-Arc it's easy to notify Baen, just set up a free account on Baen's Bar and leave a note in the publisher Toni Weiskopf's forum about it. Usually you will get a reply fromher or one of the other muckity mucks in a day or two (Yes the head honcho of Baen answers things herself).

Here is an example of an E-Arc up for sale right now:
Cryoburn-ARC
by Lois McMaster Bujold

E-mail this product to a friend

Sample Chapters

Miles Vorkosigan is back

Published 11/1/2010
SKU: A1439133948
Ebook Price: $15.00
The E-Arc has been on sale since Aug, and the Hardcover doesn't hit the shelves until Nov1. The ability to get the story early is why they are $15 ($10 or more less then a hardcover). Other examples are Ringo's Citadel which you can buy the E-arc now are wait until Jan 1 2011 for the Hardcover or the $6 Final edit Ebook and Travis Taylors Back to the Moon which goes on sale on Dec 1 2010.

Actually I was just talking to my nephew on the phone, then opened this to explain what I found out and found what you'd written
He does get the Advanced Reader Copies -- but that shouldn't be a surprise, after all he's a proofreader/editor. You see he developed MS a few years ago and could no longer run his businesses very well. At the age of 55 he retired and turned all three businesses over to his sons, but had to do something to keep himself occupied. He started out being my editor, then added one or two more 'amateur' authors and after that he expanded - or maybe just moved on. Anyway, when he gets a story, his kids convert the written word to audio for him so he can review the story for 'effect' before he ever does any proof reading or editing -- that audio copy is what he sent to me. Since I've ordered the hard cover book, I don't feel guilty about having an 'advance copy' - lol

And another falls to the nefarious plans of Eric Flint:
Someone asked me once, in a debate, how I'd react if I discovered that one of my titles—maybe all of them!—had become widely pirated. I started by posing the most extreme case I could imagine.
"You mean, I walk into a drugstore and see that the latest copy of Time magazine has my face on the cover, with a title that reads 'Works of Eric Flint pirated worldwide!' and an article on the inside that tells everybody exactly how to do it?"
"Yes," came the reply, demonstrating that my opponent was no wizard at the art of debate. "What measures would you take?"
"Well," I said, "the very first thing I'd do is get on the phone and call my friend Mike Spehar. He's a retired Air Force pilot, and I'd want his advice on which brand of private jet I should buy to be able to commute easily from the villas I'd be buying in southern France, the coast just south of Barcelona . . . Hm, maybe a penthouse in Manhattan and another one in Paris . . ."

One of my standard debater’s tricks when I give a public speech on this subject, and get to this point in my argument, is to start waving my arms enthusiastically and urge everyone in the audience to—
Please! As soon as you get home, go to your computer and STEAL ONE OF MY BOOKS!

Wouldn't it be nice if some of the larger corporations thought this line of reasoning through? O wait, Google, one of the WORLD's top companies does! Given, Google's business model is ad based, but they realize the benefit of providing a seemingly free product/service in order to show you the value of their product/service so that you will "buy" from them. Case in point: I'm a Google Apps junkie, so naturally, my last 2 phones have been Android phones. I use Google products almost exclusively when given the choice, leading to higher revenue for them. Yes, Bing might be prettier, but I LIKE Google better than MicroSatan so I use Google. End of debate. My opinion of the entity drives my patterns of use. Win for me, win for Google. All of this started with freely offerred services...
