It's been awhile since a recommendation has been made but I think this one deserves it. It fits in Portal, LitRPG and Cultivation subgenres and it is "He Who Fights with Monsters" by Shirtaloon. 3 books are out on Amazon already with the 4th due at the end of the year, but can be read on Royal Road.
Jason wakes up in a mysterious world of magic and monsters.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil.

It's been six years since I wrote anything, but my recent spate of reading all the Cultivation/Xianxia stuff (all you people linking stuff, dammit) fired the imagination. Beat me up if you feel like it. :)

https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads ... on.969034/

An alien cultivator comes to Earth to claim the Heavens, only to find a world bereft of cultivators or a Heavenly Realm to claim. So Lei Zhaohui will force the planet's cultivation until a Heavenly Realm is formed. Should none defend the new realm, Lei Zhaohui will take it for his own.

Nicole Firen is a young woman who would just like her world to start making sense. Good luck there.

Phantom & any others:
I have been reading stories written by Deana Johns (DJ "Doc" Pedersen). I have also been following the drama that cause him to pull his stories and disappear. Since I am new to this forum I want to ask if any one has access to "Jenny", "T-Joy" and "The Ring of Seven"? I would appreciate your efforts mightily!
Thanks, T

So, just want to plug a story I have been enjoying lately, Monroe. https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35398/monroe. Just a warning, the main character is seriously flawed. Like screwed up big time. Luck level minus 100. But he still tries to do what is right. The first few chapters are harsh but it gets better for Bob and his feline overlord, Monroe.

Just finished 2 series by Richard Weyand both are good character driven series.
The first is the Colony series which is set in the relative near future and is a story that takes place over the span of hundreds of years of how Humanity finally gets off Earth and then follows the ups and downs on one Colony, Arcadia, with particular attention on one clan: The Chen-Jasic clan.
First in the 6 book series here: https://www.amazon.com/QUANT-COLONY-Boo ... C83&sr=8-1
Billionaire industrialist Ted Burke understands that humanity has always balanced on the edge of a knife. A single planetary cataclysm could wipe out the human race. As long as humanity only occupies one planet, the danger exists.

Computer genius Bernd Decker understands it, too. Together, Burke and Decker come up with a daring plan to send human colonies out to multiple other planets. Not least among their problems is that no one yet has solved the problem of interstellar travel.

Bernd Decker’s computer project offers to help. But Decker doesn't realize that the Joint Artificial Neural Intelligence Computation Engine - JANICE - has crossed the Singularity.

"Janice Quant" decides to carry out their project, and absolutely nothing is going to get in her way.

The second series is set in the far future and not the same universe as the Colony series. It is a story that is basically the Roman Empire but in space. It is also separated into 3 trilogies and a 4 book sub series by Stephanie Osborn. The whole thing also spans over 400 years of time starting with the first trilogy of Empire: Reformer followed by Empire: Usurper and Empire: Tyrant.
First book here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LF ... ype=ebooks
Ruling over the vast bureaucracy of the Sintaran Empire is the Imperial Council. It’s only check: The Empress, whose every decree is binding law.

The corruption of the bureaucracy has reached staggering proportions when a true reformer ascends to the Throne. She has a long-term plan to reform the Empire.

But can the new Empress and her young allies succeed? And at what cost?

Hi all...

Tks to all for all the links / recommendations. Been having good reads from all these.

Would like to add this recommendation:

https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/14167 ... chronicles

Here's the story blurb:

Gwen Song awoke in a world that was not her own, in which everything she was familiar with had been replaced. Instead of airplanes and electricity, this 21st-century Earth is ruled by magic and dragons; humanity survives in a land of magical beasts and otherworldly beings, protected by shielded enclaves and magical constructs.

Follow Gwen across the world as she struggles to rebuild her life in this strange new reality. Behold a tale of adventure, friendship, and (of course), magic! Witness as she grows from a simple grade school student to a fully-fledged Mage, through university and beyond, discovering the secrets of a world made unreal by magic and mysticism.

Happy reading!

Couple of recommendations:

1. Azarinth Healer by Rhaegar. This one is still ongoing on Royal Road but is now coming out on Amazon Kindle Unlimited. That means the early chapters have been pulled from RR, but you can now get the cleaned up and newly edited version here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BLR ... k_ro_title

2. The "Mage's Cultivation" series by Bruce Sentar. This series is completed at 6 books:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MD ... ype=ebooks

3. The "Aether's Revival" series by Daniel Schinhofen which is now up to 6 books and still going:

I've got a number of my ebooks on Amazon going on Sale this weekend for 99 cents if anyone is interested.
The details can be found here:
https://jvanstry.blogspot.com/2022/12/c ... sales.html

If you need to find the books on Amazon, author name (John Van Stry or Jan Stryvant) search should get you there.

I also have a book out with Baen books now, but the ebook is $8.99 which might be a bit much for some people. That price will probably come down when the Mass Market Paperback comes out. That book is titled Summer's End by John Van Stry and it's Science Fiction.
