They'd kinda have to. Val was rewritten by Spyder to be a Younger God trapped on the Mortal Plane. Faith gave him power, but faith could not sustain his life when his icon was destroyed.

So the Zakkites are either new to their new faith, or are too spread out among the different gods like the Arakites are. Either way, one god can't make a stand for the whole kingdom.

I don't think the entire population did, just the leadership. I could be wrong though.

It has to be the whole population though. Val needed quantity, not quality.

In chapter 6 of The sword of fire Tarrin explains to Zak that “When a god makes a contract, they must honor it, Zak,” Tarrin told him. “It’s one of those rules that the God of All set down."

I wonder when GODs gave their word, do they cross their heart to say it is the promise they will carry.

Or when it is face to face, it can be seen as the truth.

(Hehe, I wonder whether they keep their fingers crossed behind them when they want to ahem lie.)

I just wanted to say that I think the whole series has been great and that I'm anxiously awaiting the next chapter in this saga.
