Sorry for typos but I'm on my phone. I have to keep foot elevated to reduce swelling.
Surgery was yesterday. Was shockingly fast. Doc said the deposit was in a good place, sit they were able to pull it out without having to do much. Incision is only like 5cm long, too, I'm surprised they managed to do it like that.
Recovery will take a few months, but I'll be ambulatory again in just a week or so. Bedrest right now with foot elevated to minimize swelling, then I'll be in a walking boot for two weeks to keep me from flexing the tendon as it heals, then will be on reduced activity with an ankle brace to minimize chance of tearing the tendon. Will need physical therapy afterwards to stretch and strengthen the tendon without tearing it.
Pain isn't that bad, and I can already feel the relief. Yes there's pain, but not the same pain, which was from jagged bony points digging into the tendon interior. This pain I know is just temporary, and THAT pain is now gone.
I'm already being weaned off the strong pain meds, which is a relief to me. I'm very leery of taking anything potentially addictive (addiction runs in my family but time) so I was taking only enough to make the pain bearable while still suffering the side effects of the pain meds themselves (drowsiness, wool-headedness), so it was the worst of both worlds.
Will return to writing as soon as I'm off bedrest.
