My surgery is back on the schedule. They had a surgeon from another VA hospital come to the one I use for a couple of months, one qualified to do the surgery. They're still not authorizing anything outside, so I got damn lucky they brought in another surgeon from another VA hospital.
I'm scheduled for June 2. I'll be in a walking cast for a couple of weeks, but it shouldn't otherwise interfere with my life outside of not being able to drive using it. After the walking cast, I'll be in an ankle brace for a couple of months to minimize the chance I overextend the tendon and tear it before it fully heals.
Luckily the surgery itself is supposed to be simple. They're just gonna go in and take out the piece of calcified spur, which is like a bone shard. The surgeon said during consult yesterday that the spur is in a good place to get at it with minimal damage to the surrounding tendon.
So, soon, SOON, this nightmare will be over.
