I was just thinking about how his wife is an earth Mage, so she could make a great road. Then I realised there are 2 rivers neat by, what if she uses her earth magic to allow boats access to those water ways, and built canals to allow for greater ability for trade and travel to occur. If those rivers can be traversed, it would be easier to develop the region. I was thinking about this as he has hired an army of construction workers, he might as well get full value for their work.
