Astral Tethering(spike ideas)

Tethering only works with 2 living creatures and between an object and a person. Due to the distance it allows I wonder if it allows long distance magic. We know scions, the longest ranging magic do you spike so an argument could be made.
COuld this allow you to experience the sense of another? Magic does affect senses. It could allow long distance tracking and spying.
We know spikes are the perfect focus, does the fact that they allow permanence mean that they also increase range?
is the tethering affect by the rock in between like normal magic is?
Magic is limited by distance in the real world, but using the astral plane to travel, it encounters no material to diminish it. So there is a loophole for distance.
