Server Migration #4 - Oops, long-ish outage.

Sorry for the long-ish outage (~8 hours).

What was intended to be a test migration / clone of the VM that the forums run in resulted in me just having to move the entire VM over, before I had the extra routing and other bits ready to go.

Ohwell. Forums are up and running now, and all should be working once again as it was.

Which VM Hypervisor? VMware? Xen? Hyper-V? Virtual-Box? Details. We need details!!!! What happened? vMotion crash or bad snapshot/clone?

J-Man5, VCP (310/410)

Hyper-V on two stand-alone boxes.

The disk that the VM was on was too small to allow exporting, and then after shutting down and compacting, the disk was too slow to export in a reasonable period of time.

So, I just moved the entire VHD over (private network between the Seattle DC and Dallas DC) ... but, given they only have 100Mbit NICs, that took some time. Then the RRAS and DNS setup wasn't working the way it should have, so ended up chasing my tail for a while there. (The DNS Server on the VM Host wasn't responding to queries on the Hyper-V Internal Network).

Ohwell... new hardware is shiney and fast. http://will.hughesfamily.net.au/20101101/progress/

This may be my stupidity and I'm totally cool with that.

However, all this time I thought the forums were down because this is the link I had bookmarked:

http://forums.sennadar.com/

but now the link seems to be:

http://sennadar.plebian.net/forum

it was only because you changed the link at http://sennadar.com/wp/ the I managed to figure it out.

Just thought you might want to know. You might want to put up a message on the REALLY old site also.

Yeah, I put them in backwards when I wrote the email. i was in a hurry. the plebian link was the one I had bookmarked and now the forums.sennadar.com one works instead. Very odd.

I think I need to pop on more often and see what the hell is going on.

See? That's what I'm talkin' about. I should have known that the old link was gonna die or something. I need to check in more often. I missed that one.

I'm a dork. I can admit it.
