Some time back, I did a hit count using webhits (target=thisurl) to check unique visitors for this site. Results maybe questionable though as visitors may not be unique as some access done same person from different cyber cafe round the world.

In anycase, there were at one time over 700+ unique visitors.

Anyway, if there are 200 registered visitors...thats mean the rest visitors are just "guests"...unregistered visitors.

Again this opinion is questionable I admit...but it is never too far to extrapolate with good assumption.

BTW, I considered visitor who posted anonymously as active unregistered user - like me.

Yeah, most of them just hit it to see if there's been an update or not.

You forgot that people may be using dynamic IP addresses (Dail-up trough modem), so it's verry possible that 1 guest is counted numerous times as a unique visitor.

Also, I read this board at work and at home. And I know, for example,  that Miser does the same.

So I think your opinion is questionable indeed.

As I said, the opinion is questionable. I can't remember whether the results was based on one single day stats or one month stats....

I guess even if it is one single day stats...the unique IP hits may still be coming from same people. Like what you said, even myself I'm using dynamic IP for my surfing and every hour or so I like to "refresh" my connection so as to get new IPs (trying to avoid those zombies and trojans that been attacking me these days)

Stats are still seen by those guys who put in money in any biz - like God's Word indeed.

I still remember my heyday time in starting up an IT company few yrs back ... we met many VCs to show our biz plan and figures...and guess what most of them said?

"Hey, I need some stats....ur plan lacks those stuffs!".

I dont know if it makes even the tiniest difference to your arguements here. BUT

When I check the forums from home, laptop, or work, I check from a computer on which I have logged on with the site as Miser, by name and password, and am always recognized as Miser. No matter from where I login. And thats a level of service I appreciate. I may have multiple points of access but I am just one user.

And yes we all know the old addage figures dont lie but liars can figure...... I may be off base but I dont think our members started this track as a lie. I am one of the old timers who can remember when there maybe 25 of us on the boards and reading Fels Fiction....

Three or Four forum Boards later there are undoubtly hundreds of individuals reading these sites and the greater works that bring us together. Here and now we are all gaining points for posts and being awarded titles etc.... Take Myself and Mommy Doom and a few of the true Oldtimers who have been around for all of these works and boards from their earlier genesis. If our postings of old from all sources were applied to the present there are some novices and intiates here who would be sourcers of highest rank. But we are seeing statistics from one tracking source and time line only.

Just a point for the contemplation of the masses.

It does make some difference provided the period the stats being polled include those "access hopping". For eg, within the same period of polling of say 24hrs,  it  can be seen that the same user accessing from 2 different places - from workplace and home.

I am assuming you are using Dynamic IP internet access (most people do) because in stats they don't really show your userid but IP address. And based on a polling for "UNIQUE IP" at one single moment (now here is the assumption*), several hundreds users had accessed the site. So depending on the level of confidence we have for that polling (remember that maths in stats), the figure can be taken as a good figure - nevertheless.  We know however that stats figures are questionable, but hey, they are all time favourites for some individuals/groups.

Actually I was referring to the fact that I've been on the wrong end of the spoon of doom, something about Greymist, and a couple others.  Not to mention that they changed me from a da'shar to a spammer (bleh!)
