It is a race between those that see technology as a escape valve and those that live in denial. I would say if the technology doesn't pan out in the next 15 yrs, we will have an ugly population crash followed by a new dark age, that humanity may not recover from. Our easily recoverable natural resources are used up. We need technology to get at harder to get resources.
