Yeah.
I was also thinking on what we have seen so far from them.
What they have shown and perhaps what they will throw at him (at the start )might be the older stuff they have, or weaker.
Heck there can be the factor that their enemy's have also noticed and are currently exploiting the bugs weakness back home, so they send them to the new front and hope they will be more effective over there instead of against an enemy who have an established doctrine perhaps exploiting that.
With other forces available, the bugs having shown to have trouble, using them would seem very logical.
And i do not doubt at all that they have other troops then bugs around, just thinking about the species variety and potential in a whole galaxy alone...
Still, just the reserve troops for something as huge as that will swamp most things without notice.
Now Jason is not most things, and this is at least a second front on an ongoing war far from the ho,e ground.
Hmm, did the bug hibernate or was it something like cryo suspension?
What might have been a factor in the warrior/crew choice too.
If you got troops who you can just put away for years on hibernation/freezer the supply demand for food and all the rest gets way more easy to bear.
So that might be a standard thing for them, you have heard of mothball things, well what about whole ships and crew, whole fleets, standing by but still not requiring much at all in maintenance for a loong time.
Might be very attractive indeed for something as huge as a galaxy.
Not to say all troops are in the freezer, but you get my drift i hope.
