Retribution, chapter 7, (spoilers)

Post by SYED »

So instead of an assault, we will see an epic theft of the remaining dreamers. The benga are so focused on an attack, they don't see them simply being taken. Say they use benga form bodies, they could disguise them as guards and quietly have them move inmates through the portals.

Those QEC link super ships and planets right. But the central one hub has to be the capital. So what if the kimdori find where the most gathered QEC are, then plant a beacon. That would allow Jason to portal a bomb designed to knock out all those connections. Sure some ships will be linked to other ships or installations, but enough could be affected to cripple their FTL communication systems.

So in addition to the peace treaty, they will need to bet enough benga to vote for it. So that means making it apparent that stay home will make them richer than invading. Also, undermine those who are spearheading the invasion agenda. The destruction of their goods and assets is a great start. All benga must have competition/enemies, so if their standings are weakened, it would invite others to make a move.

SYED I agree with you. The Benga Corporation which rules the Benga are guide by profits, greed, and are terribly ruthless. Those Corporations have ruled the Benga with ruthlessness for generations now to be saved from total destruction as the Benga population must over throw the corporations or the race as a whole is not worth saving and should the destroyed.

Jason has everything he needs to indict their shipyards and trap much of their fleets, and he can use his fabulous toys to destroy the shipyards, which must terriblely expanse and time consuming to replace. Also, from the descriptions of the Benga home world they must depend on imported food and many manufactured products from their other worlds which they rule over. So, he can attack and indicted those worlds and the trade routes. Taking all their profits form them for generations to come just replacing what they had just to get to what they had before.

If debt is such big business amongst the benga, then wiping the central records would undermine them greatly. Potentially creating great unrest in their society.

Wiping (or at least stealing) the financial records would be a near deathbell...but I doubt that it would be easy even for the Kimdori. In such a society, you know that its not the first time somebody tried to do something similar. Of course, thousands of planets full of financial records are goign to be BIG but you have to assume that there are backups of some description for just such an eventuality.

That said, its a good idea.

Another thought along those lines would be wiping/corrupting the ID Card records as, "In Benga society, this ID card was everything. It was his ID, it was his passport, it was his debit card…and it was a locator beacon that would allow cops to find him if they wanted."(from chapter 7), would really give them some problems for a good while or to use as a distraction for a major operation they want to pull off!

The Benga couldn't use any public trans (without making it free), buy anything, get into any secure areas like work or military might not evev be allowed to leave those areas, might even affect their being able to access their computers. Might just be sweet to see just how bad Fel could make it! LMAO

Probably nil as Jason saw that the common Benga were cowed dogs just following their Masters, even then the punish was more likely instant death, a lifetime in the mines, or worse.

Keep in mind that those ID cards were basically Shadowrun style SIN(System Identification) cards...they almost certainly has your biological data on them. Identity Theft is going to be HARD, without doing some pretty out there things. Not impossible certainly, but its certainly going to be a lot harder than picking up Dad's ID card while he's sleeping and buying out the beer at the local shop.

There probably IS a pretty severe punishment for messing up the system but I would imagine the barrier to actually DO that or commit identity theft isn't trivial.

A 2nd thought from chapter 7 – Quote: “They know that the Oracles are the focus of the CCM’s movements, and the Oracles they have that are loyal are predicting more attacks, primarily on any system holding Dreamers. Other Oracles are discounting those predictions, creating an unheard-of dilemma in their history, the fact that different Oracles are predicting different things.”

I believe we were told something like earlier in this book, most likely chapters 5 & 6. What we don’t know is how the other Dreamers feel about their disloyal brothers and sisters. Will they accept them back with them, shun them, punish them or kill them. This would good for Jason to know because he has decided he can leave even one dreamer alive with the Benga and it is many many times easier to kill a protected target than to save one, and the risk to friendly is many time less.

Jason’s thoughts from chapter 7 - “Even if the executives in the megacorps and many in the military were beyond redemption, those that sought to maintain the current order because it benefited them personally, that was no reason to spread misery on the nameless masses that made up the Syndicate’s civilians and working class. Even if they had never known love, that was no reason to stack hate upon them. After all, they were slaves to a vast machine that did not in any way care about them.
Maybe…maybe there was hope for them. Maybe with just a little kindness, they could change. Maybe…all they needed was a little faith.”

First time I’ve seen some hope for the Benga from Jason; anyone on Fel’s Forum have any thoughts before he hopefully posts chapter 8 soonest?

The problem is they only know the Syndicate way of life. If the working class rose up they would make a system that was like the one before. To truly get a new system in place you need to remove the old even from memory. If you took babies and rasied them in a new system they would follow that system or something close to it.

...I really hope Jason doesn't go the route of stealing children from their parents and raising them in a 'better' system, because that's been done in OUR world a lot of times and its seldom worked out well(read massive human rights abuses, serial abuse both physical and sexual, etc etc. Point in it doesn't work out well at all). It's usually done with the 'best' of intentions(or at least self interest disguised as 'good intentions') but there's a lot of shit wrong with stealing children...plus even aside from moral concerns about shit like that, there's the practical concerns. The race is so numerous that without a near complete coldblooded genocide, there probably is no way to actually DO something like that. We are talking about tens of billions of people here on the low end, probably closer to hundreds of billions of people who would need to die to try and 'eradicate' this system. That's a bloodbath that would surpass anything the Syndicate or the Consortium have done to the Confederacy and somehow I can't see Jason agreeing to that.

That being said, just toppling the mega-corporations is going to get ugly unless the Confederacy is there to take over. A slave uprising, and this is very much that, gets REALLY ugly.

I agree with you, but there are a couple of wildcards in the mix. Food for thought!

They don't need to take down the nega completely, just cripple them enough, to allow the consortium the ability to strike back.
