Book 4  - FireStaff Curse

Post by J-Man5 »

Why did the curse on the FireStaff only remove Tarrin's Were component and reset his memories back to before that had happened?  Shouldn't everything that had happened to him between Jesmind's bite and then have been removed?  He came out of it with a WeaveSpinner/Sui'kin body being immune to fire/heat.   If his body was stripped of his Were'ness wouldn't the curse have basically reset him as a "normal" sorcerer?  I know that the Goddess' kiss was to protect him but it was only partially effective due to the weavequake.

Just a couple of odd ramblings.

The curse removed everything that he considered made Tarrin "Tarrin"  He didn't define himself as a Sorcerer, he defined himself as a Were.  His braid and brands marked his as a brother, but the Selani Goddess protected those.

Which brings up a scary point.  Had he defined himself in the terms of being a sui'kun, wouldn't the curse have removed that from him?  And then there would be another breaking, right on top of that weavequake that came with the birth of the 7th.

Almost.  Fara'Nae only protected the brands.  It was Niami that protected the rest of him.

Nothing was supposed to happen to him at all...Niami knew the curse was there and tried to protect him with a latent spell, which she placed on him when she kissed him.  But the Weavequake caused it to trigger prematurely, to protect him from THAT, thus it did virtually nothing when the curse hit him.

Had they not protected him, that's exactly what would have happened...his body and mind would have beel "rewinded" back to when Jesmind bit him.  Absolutely everything that happened to him during that time would have been stripped away.

Would it have forced him to be a unchallenged sui'kun again?

And if so, what would that have done?

It wouldn't have done much of anything.  He'd be exactly as he was when he was bitten, with the mind and body of that same 17 year old kid.  No Were nature, no immunity to fire, and so on.

As far as what impact it would have on the Weave...none.  None at all.  It's the BIRTH of a sui'kun that affects the weave, not when they cross over.  Since that happened before the curse hit him, it had no effect.
