Ok to give Avatar it due
And no i've not yet seen it
Wasn't Avatar some thing he wrote before Terminator ??????
but never filmed or produced because the tech wasn't yet ready ?
seems like maybe he should have updated it some more <G>

Phantom
And in the fury of this darkest hour
I will be your light
A lifetime for this destiny
For I am Winter born
And in this moment..I will not run
It is my place to stand
We few shall carry hope
Within our bloodied hands
(bloodied hands)
And in our Dying, we're more alive-than we have ever been
I've lived for these few seconds
For I am Winter born
The CruxShadows "Winterborn" (This Sacrifice)

It's surprising to me that I'm STILL thinking about the movie even though it's been 4 days since I saw it.
I find myself continuing to think of it because of the plot - that is is to say: how easily the plot could have been rescued with a few dialouge changes.

*Have the executive actually lie to Jake.
*Have the them also lie about how much time he has, or in other ways cut it short.
*Give Jake back him memmories of sign-language. You'd think a marine would have some knowledge of how to communicate with a UAV operator.
*Have the na'vi explain that humans are full of unpleasent suprises, and that they don't want any this close to home - which is why the sky people are forbiddden from ... yadda yadda yadda.
*Show what the moster bats actually get out of the deal - maybe they like to see the world in colour? Maybe they view the tribe as a fascinating soap opera?

Have Jake explain to the na'vi very clearly that they cannot win this war, only the battle. "You went to Doc Grace's school? Did she ever explain what the word 'billion' meant?" In the long run the na'vi will have to learn to treaty with one faction of sky people or another. That their xenophobia (foreign policy?) and general ignorance also caused this war. And of course remove that bilge about Earth. That might have worked back in the 80s, but thirty years after this script was written, the world has moved on. It would be nice if Cameron could have too.

And personally I'm dissapointed about the lack of human/na'vi interaction. I can only think of three scenes when humans and na'vi were both in shot and not trying to kill each other. I'd also have the black chick play a far greater leadership roles. She is after all a fuly trained pilot fully versed in human combat lore. Gosh darn it, if only there was some way to combine those two goals...

I don't think anyone is doubting the technical mastery of the animation. It's a monument to the skill and expertise of the people involved.

That doesn't make a difference if the story, directing, or acting isn't up to par though.

I havn't seen it yet though, so I'll have to wait until then before I can be sure of my opinion. waiting for the school holidays to wrap up before I brave the cinemas.

Himself and I saw Avatar in 3D and we both thought it was Captial A Awesome. Reminded us a lot of scuba diving, as at least one of the nifty plants is based on a specific type of coral. The colors are just splendid. You guys GOTTA see it.

And yes, the plot is a bit thin. Who cares??

Those people who never watch movies without an amazing plot and never for the visuals are all hypocrites. Unless of course, they never watch porn.

I watched this movie once, and am going again to see it in 3d with my wife. We're making a special point to make it a date and consider it time and money well spent. :)
I'd gladly travel back in time, except I would have to wait longer for the next chapter of Fel's work...sorry, pass.

I have seen it and loved it for it's effects, of course plot was simple but unfortunately for me, I have seen movies with lots worse plot so I enjoyed it. Some of my friends said the plot remindes them of Pocahontas. What is Your opinion?

So, finally saw Avatar today.

It was about as expected - extremely pretty blue smurfs, showing off some cool concept technologies - without about as much plot depth and originality as soggy weetbix.

My pet hate: "Foo is impossible. Only our bravest warriors have ever done that, and even then - only a few in thousands of years have survived. {Skip 15 minutes} Suprise, guess what I did?"

Things I did like:
- The world and it's mechanics were very well thought out.
- The technology was also well developed and pretty much following along known science.
- The visual effects and virtual camera work was stunning.

It's also the first 3D film I've seen where I didn't walk out of the cinemas with a huge headache. That may have been due to the camera work - the depth of field generally covered the things my eyes wanted to drift to and focus on, and the amount of out-of-field content was generally kept pretty low.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Never!

Not that I wouldn't love to see a movie of either, but the books are so long that no movie or hollywood series could contain them and do them justice. If someone wants to make a 120-hour movie, that might approach being acceptable for one of them....

the Tarrin Kael chronicles would be a GREAT platform for an epic , multi-movie movie, like harry potter or star wars.
