Conviction, Chapter 1.

A few reminders, guys.
One, I'm NOT moving forward immediately. This chapter is mainly to get things set up with all the changes, and I'll be returning to Spelldancer for at least one or two more chapters. But I WILL be coming back to Conviction soon and writing it.
Two, I have to admit, there will be several cookies handed out. A few of you have been thinking about this story WAY too much. That, or my writing is getting way too predictable. I try not to read discussion posts about stuff I'm working on so I'm not tempted to change something you guess just out of spite, but after reading through the conviction post down in the discussion forum, I can admit that a couple of you got a few things right.
Three, I'm being ultra-lazy and not spellchecking this. It's 50 pages, that's 6 minutes of my life better spent doing something else, like scratching my backside.
Four, I'm stating flat out right now that there are a couple of very minor plot points that will be different in this chapter from earlier. Consider things to be "retconned," meaning I encountered plot paradoxes that couldn't be explained away, so I just flat out changed things to make it work. What you read in this chapter is official canon.
On a side note, for future reference, I'll be forced to retcon the IBL schedule that will be alluded to later in the story. The regular season games are supposed to START on midsummer's day, and somehow I forgot that and instead started pre-season training camps on midsummer's day. So consider that retconned as well. Conviction will have the IBL regular season games begin on midsummer's day, and someday, when I'm bored, I'll go back into Secession and Inception and retroactively fix things.
Five, enjoy.
