Thanks - that was it. Thirty years as an accounting systems specialist, I have had many such 'rescues' and when telling a friend about some of them, I remembered the story and decided I would like to read it again while my mind still is able to follow the story. I thought it was in my library but it wasn't there - it is now.

Hey Everyone,

Hoping you can help me find a story that I can't seem to place where I found it. It was called "Rose", I think, and I think I might have read it on Fiction press. It was mainly about a the daughter of a mob boss named Rose and her bodyguard, who I think was named Phil, who was a assassin for the the mob family. Haven't had any luck finding the story, so I figured I would turn to better minds lol. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hey everyone,

Looking for a story I read a while ago, pretty sure it was on fictionpress. Story was about the daughter of a mob family and a bodyguard/assassin for the family. The story was a action/romance and I believe that that daughter's name was Rose and the bodyguard was named Phil. Would appreciate any help, as I remember it being a pretty good novel. Thanks

Hello All,

I'm looking for a series of stories. They are part of a Multiverse series. In the first book, 2 aircraft carriers + battle group (one US, one French) get pulled into an alternate timeline where the US lost the revolutionary war, and Britain and France are at war.

The second book the Nazis have won the 2nd world war and have found a way to invade other alternate timelines through a portal in Cambridge. The US and the rest of the world ends up beating the Nazis, and freeing North America.

In the third book, people go through a portal to a world where there is magic. They end up fighting dragons, gods and spiders. All during the 3 books, there is a multiverse war going on, with people in each timeline participating.

The author has other books, where modern UK gets sent back to just before WW2.

Thanks for your help.

These are all non published works by Christopher Nuttall, author of the Ark Royal series.
The first book you asked about is Carrier Wars:
The USS George Washington and the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle were engaged in a joint mission when they were swept up by an unknown power and swept across the timelines to a different reality – where the American Revolution failed and the British Empire still exists…
The second is The Counterfactual War:
In an alternate world, the Greater German Reich survived, conquering Britain in 1940, Russia in 1941, the Middle East in 1942…and finally America in 1960. It has taken the world, taken the moon – and now it is experimenting with inter-dimensional travel. Our world is about to face a nightmare from the past, one more deadly than ever…
The third is The Otherworld War:
Five years after the Nazi War, the Thande Institute is working to explore alternate timelines. When a timeline hints at vastly superior technology, the institute is more than willing to send an Insertion Team right into the timeline…only to see it become trapped within a timeline where the laws of science are very different. Magic works, dragons fly high in the sky…and all-powerful Powers control the lives of humans within their influence.
There are also 5 more books in that series here:

There also more series free on the site but one of them recently was published on Amazon and expanded by Chris, the Angel in the Whirlwind series. You can still read the first revisions of the first two books in that series.

Many years ago, at least 35, I checked out a science fiction book from the library. All I remember about it was spaceships that were mining asteroids for miniature black holes that were in the center of some asteroids. I believe those miniature black holes were used to generate power. It was a paperback book, but I cannot recall the title or author. This plot point keeps popping into my head every now and then, and I’d like to track down the source and read it again.

Thoughts anyone?
Thanks.

Maybe Earth by David Brin? It has a black hole that plays a part of the main plot. I can't remember if they are also mining them or just making them artificially.

If it were magnetic monopoles they were mining for rather than black holes then Larry Niven's 'Known Space' books might be what you're looking for?

Thanks for trying, but neither of those would be it. I'm positive it involved mining miniature black holes, and I'm pretty certain is wasn't part of any series. Maybe one day I'll run across it in a used book store.

The idea intrigued me so I went looking. There is a wikipedia page on black holes in fiction. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_holes_in_fiction) I have pasted below what appears to be the closest.

The Ophiuchi Hotline (1977) by John Varley: micro black holes are harvested in the Oort cloud and used to produce energy.

"The Black Hole Passes" (1980), short story by John Varley (in The Persistence of Vision, 1978), in the same setting as The Ophiuchi Hotline. A space station outpost in the Oort cloud attempts to capture a passing black hole, which turns out to be intelligent.

Looking for a story that I think was on SOL about Male and Female programmers who design an A.I. at some facility. For some reason that I can't remember they have to go on the run and the A.I. escapes with them and keeps them from falling into government hands. Eventually at the end the A.I. designs some type of space going vehicle that will house the now couple and itself and they leave earth. That's all I remember. Can someone help me out.

Thanks,

Lago

Well, curiosity drove me to checking my 'plot reviews' of various tales I've read. While I'm not sure if what I found is what you want, somehow the plot sounds rather similar: An elderly couple are dying, only they are given a 'miracle drug' that not only cures them, but makes them grow younger - fro there the story goes through a loooooong extended tale of what they did in the next several years. However the last page has mention of the couple and their descendants meeting in some far distant galaxy eons later.
The story I'm referring to was called "Ever and Always" by Banadin and was available on "Stories on Line."
