Possible brief site outage

Post by Fel »

We're moving the forums and site to a new set of nameservers, so there may be a brief outage while everything updates.

Grey has everything ready on his side, so if the nameservers update smoothly, the transition should be seamless.

As always, if you can tolerate my tweets about politics and ponies, you can keep up to date on twitter if the site goes down for an extended period.

Welp, that was a warning about nothing.

Everything is already updated, and we're good to go.

The fact that you posted means the site isn't out. ;)

From what I can see (while snooping into the nuts and bolts behind the scenes) the only changes made were in Forum management - Spec seems to have retired and Fel is now in control of the whole shebang (with the aid of Greymist).

I think we all need to give a rousing THANK YOU to Spec for all his years of aid and assistance at maintaining the site.

Thank you, Spec!

Thanks for all your hard work in keeping this site going, Spec!

On to this site update, I'd like to note that i noticed the differences in the forum a day or two before Fel posted this topic, so i think he was a bit late. But what I really don't like about this move/update is that the "last post" tab is completely gone when viewing the site on mobile. Until now, I could still see it by turning the screen, but not anymore. Now i have to rely on the notifications tab and unread posts.

Hmm, I had the same sort of problem a week or two ago, but not on mobile -- I use a desktop and eliminated the problem by clearing my cache - any chance you have the same sort of issue?

I did upgrade the forums from 3.1.9 to 3.2.2 on the 14th, I don't think they removed any functionality in that upgrade. Viewing the site on a desktop browser I can see the "Last Post" column, on a mobile it's all condensed below the topic name. Did it not used to be condensed?

This is what I see

Edit: I realise I'm using the subsilver theme, but I just checked prosilver and it looks similar

I was talking about the main forum page itself. This is how it looks on my mobile....

The mobile site used to look almost exactly like the desktop site. But a while back (about a year or so, I'd guess) a software update changed that. It removed the last post from the main site on mobile, except when turning the phone and loading the forum in landscape instead of portrait (I'm not sure those are the correct terms). With the latest update however, even that was eliminated, on my phone at least.
