Though not free, you should also look at Scrivener (http://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener.php). It's a program that a lot of professional and amateur writers use. It's a little convoluted at first, but once you figure it out it is extremely handy with a lot of features like imbedded notes and whatnot. From what you have previously posted about keeping multiple documents open with notes this would probably be extremely complimentary to how you write.

Given the past enjoyment I've gotten from your stories, if you are interested in Scrivener I'd be willing to donate an amount equivalent to the purchase price.

That said, if you are just looking for a free program your major options are LibreOffice and Google Docs. Google Docs is good for what it is (its major benefit is in collaboration, which since you don't use editors you would get little use out of that), but LibreOffice would probably function better for serial/novel writing.

Just my 2 cents.
