Serious update.

Post by Fel »

This is not a joking follow-up to "I'm spoiling you."

Earlier today I ended up with first and second degree burns on most of my left hand...and it was a relatively silly kitchen accident. I slipped while carrying a bowl of boiling-hot soup, and when my knee hit the floor, I tilted the bowl and spilled most of it over my hand. If you've ever suffered a liquid burn, then you know what it feels like.

Needless to say, I won't be doing any serious typing until this heals. I figure it's gonna take two or three days for the swelling and blistering to go down enough to get range of motion back in my wrist and thumb. I may not need them to type, but just typing this is proving that typing hurts.

Until then, it's gonna be a lot of cold packs and aloe vera lotion.

When the blisters break, and they will, use a good anti-bacterial ointment, like Polysporin or Neosporin. I speak from experience, having burned my arm on a piece of metal that had just been welded. I've also had liquid burns, only I spilled the pot I was using to boil the water for noodle soup.

Get well soon!

Take care of yourself, the story can wait until you heal up.

Hope it heals fast for you.

Indeed healing first typing later. And even though I do not have personal experience with such burns I empathize and strongly concur with the use of strong topical antibiotics when the blisters burst.

Take the time to a complete recovery. Health is more important.

Fel, hope you have a speedy and relatively pain free recovery.

I love your nonchalantness. "Oh, burned my hand, will take a few days to get a little better. Sorry!" I would be like "OH GOD I'M GOING TO LOSE MY HAND NEVER TYPING AGAIN!!!" and milk it for a month. Take all the time you need!

Want nonchalant? I put up a twitter pic of the burn, and an "after" showing the bandage job.

I had basic first aid training in the Air Force...and it's been VERY useful in the 25 years since I was in.

I highly suggest that everyone learn basic first aid. You never know when it might become VERY important.

Hey Fel, we appreciate the update, but I'm willing to bet we are all of the opinion that healing is the important part.

Not that we don't like to be spoiled, but we obviously need you healthy so you can type faster.

Hope you have a speedy, painless and aesthetically pleasing recovery! And like Radar said, milk it!

I like your Twitter stream. "breaking news: boiling water burns.", followed by a tweet about soccer, then the pics. Priorities!

Yes, Man City needs to win today, I'm probably the biggest Man City Fan not born in Great Britain.

I have the game on right now. Thank you NBCSN for running Premier League games!

Ouch! I wish you the best of recoveries Fel..! Heal first, write later. ;)

I was in the Air Force myself. I was an avionics tech. What did you do Fel?

Well I am sorry to hear this, but luckily I will not be suffering from Fel withdrawal. I have withstood reading Inception, Earth Bond, and a good portion of Shadow Walker. I know I need to read it, but I have not cause I will be sad when I have read it all.

I fully understand about learning some first aid. I was forced to learn the hard way after having to to save my wife by using the Heimlich on her when she choked on a piece of meat once and I guarantee it is no fun doing it for the first time with no training.
