He was the master, and I can only imagine how much more awesome music would be if he lived longer.

I'd have to call it a tie between J. S. Bach and W. A. Mozart.

Franz Liszt comes in a very close third.

Favorite ?!?! Not possible.
My favorite classical song is Canon in D by Pachelbel.
But, I like music from Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, John Williams, Vivaldi...

I'm tempted to be a heathen and broaden the current discussion on choosing a composer to composers, and then just list all the members of the band Tool ^_^.

They formed 23 years ago, that could be considered classical no?

If you wanted a more traditional spin, I'd have to say my favourite would be Clint Mansell and perhaps the song Lux Aeterna (Full Orchestral version), although I do very much like his work on The Fountain soundtrack.

If it is not classical, I would have chosen the voice of Steve Perry. He sang beautiful love songs for my ears.

Well for classical, I have a penchant for Ravel. Daybreak is nice.

I tend to like most of the classical composers, depending on my mood. But one suite that I do like a lot is Holst's "The Planets"

What about modern composers? I am a big fan of Philip Glass. My father-in-law described his music as "music to make people leave the room" but I really enjoy his minimalist style. My recent most favorite of his albums is Solo Piano. Some great pieces on that album. I also love two of his three Portrait Trilogy operas: Satyagraha & Akhnaten. I mean who doesn't love opera sung in Sanskrit or an opera about the first monotheist in history? Yea, a few of his works are too extreme even for me, such as Einstein on the Beach, but his soundtracks are fabulous: Koyaanisqatsi, The Hours, Notes on a Scandal, The Thin Blue Line, and Mishima. When the tubular bells go crashing in Opening/Mishima, I just have to play air-bells, striking them for each note. I am sure this looks very threatening when I am driving on the freeway.

He used to write advertising jingles. State Farm Insurance ("Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there..."), and Band-Aid ("I am stuck on Band-Aid, 'cause Band-Aid's stuck on me!"). He also sang the McDonald's "You Deserve a Break Today" one.

You're gonna have to narrow that one down more... The reason my handle is Fiferguy is that I'm a classical flutist, with two degrees and almost three in music...the first two in performance. The last nearly complete degree in music theory. Asking me for my favorite composer is like asking me my favorite oxygen atom...

Just too many to name, in other words. Now, if you want to know my favorite era of music--definitely modern. I love it all--even the really esoteric classical music. I'm also a fan of symphonic metal, though, so what does that tell you?

Love it. Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica, etc. too. I just found Van Canto--an acapella metal group (voices and drums)--and I like them too.
