For David Weber Fans

Post by boballab »

He did an interview while he was over in Poland that can seen in 4 parts here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyNWcxpkuMY
Part 1 deals with General Questions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkD-DdbSuuQ
Part 2 deals with Safehold and Honorverse

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kBlIeewQrI
Part 3 deals with the Bazhell books

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNQCDBwsRTU
Part 4 deals with the Honor Harrington Movie and other novels

Some take away things:
1. There is to be at least 2 more Safehold books that will take us to the end of the Group of Four and then the next series starts that is projected to be 2 to 3 dealing with the "truth" being exposed.

2. There is to be 2 more Bahzell books then a follow on 5 book series that deals with the final confrontation between the Gods of Light and Dark in Norfressa.

3. He plans to write at least 2 more Dahak books, 2 more Path of the Fury books and 2 more Multiverse books.

4. The plot outline for 3 new Prince Roger books has been completed.

5. He will be starting a new trilogy in the Honorverse with Timothy Zahn, set 400 years before the birth of Honor.

Wow,

I am one of those DAvid Weber's fans. Not all his books but the soap opera kind.

Glad to hear about that there will be more room for Dahak... a series I thought is dead and buried. The Achultani has not been really wrapped up. :D

I assume you mean Space Opera, although I do admit that some of his longer plots have some Soap Opera characteristics :)

I sort of wish he restart writing singleton novels...

from what I understand it's not a sequel to the price roger books but a prequel set during the founding of the empire.

From what I heard, that was the original plan back when the last book was released but now they are planning to take up where We Few left off.

From what I heard, that was the original plan back when the last book was released but now they are planning to take up where We Few left off.

For those that didn't see the exchange in Links to Good Reading, I'll recap.

1. The original plan was for Weber and Ringo to do a series set at the formation of the Empire of Man focused on Miranda MacClintock.

2. Since it had been many years since they had the time to get together (and John's Muse has been unhelpful), John went back and reread the series. When he got to the final scene in We Few he has stated on his Facebook page: "That's it? Where is the rest of the story?"

3. He talked it over with David Weber and they decided to finish the story by telling the civil war between King Roger and Prince Jackson.

4. John has already started writing the book and has announced on his Facebook page that it starts right where We Few ends in the throne room.

For those that want to keep up on the info there is of course Baen's Bar where Weber has multiple forums and Ringo has his Tavern:
http://bar.baen.com/

From the Tavern on the Bar:
Secondly and only in the Tavern, the restriction banning the asking of the question "When is the next book in the?" BOOK SERIES THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED (namely the Empire of Man series, aka the Prince Roger Series, aka the March Series, which contain the books, "March Upcountry", "March to the Sea", March to the Stars", and "We Few") has been lifted, as of LibertyCon 25, I asked Mr. Ringo outright if we can ask again and he said yes, we can. Needless to say that there is one planned. Actually more than one, three actually last I heard. Recently Mr. Ringo has been re-reading his works in preparation for his writing season and was reading "We Few" and when he got to the end Mr. Ringo apparently exclaimed: "That's it?! Where's the rest?!" So now, and again according to Mr. Ringo it will start off right from the throne room, beyond that I do not know. However, since the next one will definitely not be out for another year, expected release of Dec. of 2013 or 2014, so asking the question now or until its release is still moot as you now have a time frame. Asking of this question may still result in the Tavern-master declining to post more snippets of his works. I cannot say for sure if it will happen, but it sounds like a credible threat, Ms. Miriam Ringo herself (Mr. Ringo's Wife, congrats by the way) has alluded that this is actually feasible, so please do not push the issue. Now that is not to say that you cannot discuss said series, just that now you can ask the question regarding the Series That Must Not Be Named, I am now officially relieved of duty. And now that the sticky is active, no one will have to do a monthly post again. I will still check in occasionally if there are posts, as this is still officially one of my posts, so technically I am responsible for the content.
Then there is David Webers own website:
(Answering a question "Really? A new novel in the Prince Roger Saga? Sweet!") --Yes. Really. In two or three years at current rate but, yes, really.

--‘The Imperial We, that snooty nose in the air way We emperors affect, is not just a high falutin’ way of speaking. The Imperial We denotes that, as Emperor, We speak for and are responsible for the lives of all the people of the Empire. When this person, Roger MacClintock, says ‘We’, We’re speaking for all of Us. Not just Our close advisors, We Few who turned this tide. Not, assuredly, the power players of the capital. When We say ‘We’ We’re talking about the Empire, Core Systems and Border Planets and all the people that live and love and laugh and breathe and hope for a better tomorrow. Let’s face facts: We got Us some problems.

--Assuming David agrees, starts right up from the scene in the throne room at the end of We Few.

--I recently reread the series. When I got done I walked into the livingroom and growled at Miriam. 'These God Damned writers! How can they just LEAVE it that way! Roger has PROMISES TO KEEP! WHERE THE HELL IS THE SEQUEL!!!!?'

--... Mind game time: What is the common response of monarchs when the power of the nobility and ministries combine to reduce the power of the monarch?

--Fortunately, the one problem Roger don't have is Strela. Otherwise the response would be obvious.

--Synopsis:Outline:Book

-- ‎David M Weber has to approve the basic story idea first and I want his input (obviously) on a bunch of the stuff. He is, face it, better at the court intrigue and politics than I am. But the real crux of the problem (how do we get Roger ou...t killing people in person) is fairly well handled. I thinwe were both overthinking it. Roger's going to be out there killing people in person for various reasons not the least of which being: He's Roger Ramius Sergei Chiang MacClintock and that's what he DOES.

--Which is why he's going to simultaneously be one of the most hated, feared and loved Emperors in history.

If you left because of the change to the New, New, New Bar and the way it had problems I can tell you that the New, New, New, New Bar done by Principal Technologies (Baen Author Mark Van Name's company) is way better and has good response to customer complaints.

That's good news about the new, new, new, new bar. :)

I was going to endure the previous version for just the new content but hopefully will stick around.
