Other Authors (RAPINA)

Post by Wolfee »

Anyone know how to get a hold of the author of the Rapina stories? http://www.asstr.org/files/Authors/rapi ... ories.html

If so could you gentle nudge him or her and request another chapter please? Rapina said it was okay to do this - to urge him/her to write. While we wait for Fel's next delievery another chapter of Rapina's tale would help pass the time.

Wolfee, I forwarded your message to her (?), adding my own gentle nudge. I will let you know if I get any response.

I have kinda given up on this story. The email address in the first chapter worked back in 2007, I have no idea about now.

I check every 6 months or so to see if there is a new chapter, but otherwise, I don't worry about it.

It's a pity really, it's a great story I would love to see it continued, but the length between chapters grows with each one.
I still remember there being new ones every few weeks, now we're lucky to be graced with one a year.

Problem with the email address in the first chapter...

<Rapina@GameBox.net>:
173.204.89.163 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 <Rapina@GameBox.net>: Recipient address rejected: Free account closed, go to http://www.hotpop.com/changetype.jsp to upgrade account.
Giving up on 173.204.89.163.

So I hope someone has a newer email address.

The following instructions are posted on Rapinas forum page for the year 2009:
My old Gamebox.net email is defunct. The provider evidently went out of business. I now have email at gmail.com. I am not including it here because of the preponderance of spam that seems to cling to Asstr despite impressive efforts to keep it to a minimum. If you want my email address, just send a request via the forum. The forum has a nifty human-detector that filters out most robotic attempts at using it
But I can't tell you if and when you might get a response via the forum request, as it has been more then one year since Rapina updated the forum (last update occurred May 2009).

Thanks Hawkeye,

I had forgotten about that - pretty sure I sent a request in via the forum asking for the email address months ago and I haven't heard a thing obviously. Wish Rapina would get a site like this - it would definately encourage him/her to continue writing. And make it much easier to keep on contact...

I think she's still writing. I was always hoping to see the completion of the story Captive Souls. It was a collaboration with Dark Icon, and I was enjoying it very much. Unfortunately, DI had some personal troubles and has cut WAY down on his writing. It doesn't look like Captive Souls will ever be finished.

I re-read this earlier in the year. It's a great story concept and I love how it takes time for Rapina to develop magic in a believable way. After about chapter 40 the writing gets much better and then steadily improves every chapter from then on. If there is one good thing that you could say about the slow pace of posting it is that the longer period between updates may be the reason why each chapter is better written. Still I probably check more than 51 times a year just in case that's the week of the yearly update. :P

I haven't checked her site in a few weeks, but I do check darkicon's site frequently. His current story is nearing an end and it's been an enjoyable ride.

One thing I've considered is starting a fan-contributed site, preferably a wiki (for characters, places, spells, etc.) as well as a forum. However, I would feel better if the author gave a nod to this idea.

I imagine people contributing maps and character sketches.

I've suggested to Rapina that she post on SOL - to give herself another reader base thats active and will give feedback. I've also suggested she create a site like this. However if there are folks willing to do it for her and to assist in copy editing the older chapters that would rock!

Yes! Chapter 70 "Springville" has been published. See http://www.asstr.org/~rapina/rapcon.html

By the way, we've started a wiki for the Chronicles of Rapina: http://rapina.wikkii.net

All are welcome to read, and better yet, edit the wiki.

Well its now been over 1 year since Rapina posted the last chapter. Seriously its getting old that the writer won't even respond to requests for updates or give proof of life. I know I'm a bit testy over it. But I just really want the story to be completed. I HATE when folks come up with a great story line and don't stick with it. If your not going to finish it, DON'T POST IT. Or better yet - don't post till its done.

There is another author this time on SOL that has disappeared in the last few months, Vlfouquet is the name, was posting very regular and then SSSsssssSSSSssssSSSsssSSSssss.... Nothing. Not even a update to his blog. I've sent many a request asking if the author was alright and or was still breathing, and when he would be posting again. Heck I would have been happy with a blog entry that he was going to be away for 6 months or something. And yes - I was very polite.

Than there is paid author for Baen publish - John Ringo... normally has multiple books a year like 4 or 5 coming out... this year only one. And nothing on hte up coming list as far as I know.

Its getting a bit dry in the reading bin. On the other hand Amazon LOVES ME - ever since I've gotten this Android phone I buy a ebook or 5 a week or something like that.

Well thats my 2 cents worth... anyone got any GOOD news to report on any of our favorite authors.?
