Physical appearance: Fox appears to be very young, only in his mid twenties. He is tall and gymnastic, built like a panther. Has noticable scar over left eye, bisecting eyebrow, and on right chest, trailing all the way to the lower stomach diagonally. Fox never wears armor because he cannot perform any of his thief abilities while armored, and commonly dresses in black leather breeches, a sleevless leather tunic over a white or brown linen short sleeve shirt, and a pair of black tabi boots. His swords are worn crossed over his back in a special harness worn under his tunic.

Personality: despite his great age, Fox has a youthful innocence and curiosity about the world that causes him to endlessly wander, to find out what's over the next hill. He never takes anyone or any creature by reputation, instead dealing with anyone, from a gold elf to a lich, on a person by person basis. He never attacks just "because it's an orc;" he instead gets more information to discern if said orc is in need of attacking. He's just as apt to have tea with a vampire as he is to have dinner with a dryad. He lives by a rather carefree code of "if you don't bother me, I won't bother you, no matter what people say about you." He also cannot resist a challenge, and tends to ignore local law in the pursuit of completing one.

History: Born in 860 (Dale Reckoning) in what is now Aglarond but was then part of Thay to a carpenter. His parents died when he was a boy, which caused him to become a thief to survive. He fell in with an adventuring company known as the Maniacs (aptly named). As part of the Maniacs, he adventured all over the East, from Thay to Hillsfar to the Dales, to Semphar, until the Maniacs were captured by the Red Wizards and used for magical experimentation. Fox and his companion Agorast the Mage were the only survivors, and both earned from that experimentation a resistance to aging: they age only one year for every fifty that pass.

Fox wandered to the east to avoid the Red Wizards, who sought to recapture him to use his blood to make their potions of longevity (which can still be done), across the steppes of the Tuigan and into Kara-Tur. In Kara-Tur he abandoned his thieving ways and studied the fighting arts under the bushi and martial masters of Shou Lung and Wa, who saw that his potential as a warrior was being wasted in a life of common thievery.

After 20 years of learning to abandon his ways of a thief and becoming a warrior, Fox returned to the west as a fighter, bringing back a pair of magical boots, a cursed pair of swords, and a magical ring from Kara-Tur. He fell in with any number of adventuring companies, staying with them when they went his way, parting amicably when he wanted to go in another direction. He wandered all over Faerun, from Hillsfar to Shar, from Thay to Waterdeep, and from Halruua to Icewind Dale, and back againm for 250 years. And in that time there was not a single organized governmental structure he did not find a way to outrage, infuriate, annoy, or REALLY aggravate, because Fox's concept of law and propriety were based in the mindset of an eternally fun-loving ex-thief. Fox is still being hunted by the Red Wizards, the Zhentarim, the Cult of the Dragon, the Knights of Myth Drannor, the agents of Azoun IV (because of what Fox did to his grandfather, Azoun II), Neverwinter, Amn, Halruaa, and Semphar, for his past meddling in their affairs.

Notes: Fox's swords are cursed in this manner: if they are separated by more than 50 feet, they begin to radiate either damaging cold or damaging heat, which becomes stronger and stronger as they are moved further away from one another. At a distance of 500 feet, this radiation takes on deadly proportions (5-50 points of heat or cold damage per round of exposure for the unprotected). At any strength, the range of this aura of damage is 10 feet. Fox only uses his ring of warmth and ring of fire resistance when his swords become separated. This is the only reason he owns them, to deal with his swords without injury when they become separated.

Fox's Ring of Elemental Command is fully active and with all the listed powers of a ring of its type, but his ring is slightly different from a standard ring. Instead of summoning an air elemental, it instead summons a Djinn. This Djinn cannot grant wishes, but can fight or perform services just as an elemental could, but the Djinn is NOT, repeat, NOT compelled to obey the owner of the ring in any manner. The Djinn is free-willed. The ring owner must either force, cajole, or bribe the Djinn into service. In return for this limitation over a normal ring, Fox can summon the Djinn once every three days instead of once a week. Fox has, however, managed to negotiate a working relationship with this Djinn, named Aurimantirila, but whom he simply calls Aura. Aura is an 8 hit dice Noble Djinn (she is an adolescent among her kind, but is nearly 400 years old), but she can cast Wizard spells as a 8th level Wizard, and is treated as a 8th level Wizard in all other respects, including saving throws. Fox can summon Aura once every three days, but she can enter the Prime Material plane at her own behest at will, which she often does...if only to annoy Fox.

****imagine a combination of Sarraya and Auli, with Auli's cunning and Sarraya's lack of self control. This is how Pat, the DM, always played Aura. Every time Fox summoned her, it was a battle of wills and a battle of wits to get her to do what he wanted the way he wanted it done. Fox and Aura were friends, but she never missed an opportunity to annoy or embarass him, and it was often her connivery that got him on wanted posters around Faerun. Both Sarraya and Auli are eternal nods to Aura, the ORIGINAL bad girl, of whom I have many fond memories.****

Fox's Dexterity and Charisma are the results of past stat-raising magic. His Charisma is the result of pulling the Keep card from a Deck of Many Things, and his Dexterity the result of a magical power that reduced his wisdom by 2, and increased his dexterity by 2. The non-parenthesis stats are his original rolled stats.

Fox's armor class is lower than it appears it should be because he has specialization in weapon defense, which lowers his AC by 2 when using weapons in which he has Master specialization. When wielding his katanas or in unarmed combat, his AC is -5. If wielding any other weapon, his AC is -3. He is Master-level specialized in the katana, throwing daggers, dual wield fighting style, and unarmed combat (martial arts). He has Double Specialization in two-handed fighting style, the glaive (naginata), and the longsword.

Of special note is that Fox has put enough points into blind-fighting to be able to fight blind with no penalties.

Note also that Fox has the skills of a 10th level thief, which he can use at any time without penalty. He cannot perform his thief abilities while wearing heavy armor, so he forgoes armor in favor of his Bracers of Defense so he can utilize his thieving skills if the need arises.

And now we see where Tarrin's appearance gets its origins...

It's cool that you posted that Fel, very nice character.

A little, but what Tarrin inherited from Fox is his stealth, lol.

Fox was the best character I ever had because I had a plan for him when I rolled him up. I wanted a "ninja," but couldn't have a real one...so I decided to start a thief with the intent to split-class him into a fighter.

So, now I have a level 35 warrior who can hide in shadows, move silently, climb walls, pick pockets...oh, and he can backstab. 8)

It worked rather well. ;)
