The syndicate is going to offer a ship as a trap, and the confederation are planning on stealing it instead. The thing is if they plan to have the ship attacked, it makes sense to not use their best one, possibly even go as far as booby trapping it with explosives to ensure they get a reason to go to war. On the other hand, the more valuable le a ship that they offer up, the more likely some one will take the bait.

Just thinking about upgrades to the defense of Karis.

With system wide broadcast energy could Karis not have a second planetary shield powered by satellite substations in geostationary or station-keeping orbit? Plus large orbital/system energy cannons powered by broadcast energy and with CMS, that would remain stealthy until needed.

These could both also be useful in fleet engagements with remote disposable cannons powered by broadcast energy and fleet/battle group shields powered through outboard drones.

I wonder how effective those Kimdori stream weapons would be against a moon sized shit (even one of the older or middle aged ones).

That's got to be one of the best typing errors of the year.

What if one of those kimdori stream weapons refitted on one of his cloaked warships? The ones meant to be one shot, one kill. If one ship is not enough, a small group cloaked could ambush a super ship and eliminate the crew.

If refitted, it would be a huge boost to the confederation, a mobile pseudo base. I bet it could act as base for every small and medium ship in the alliance. The fleet sent, were they the newest, on average or oldest in their inventory? I personally am leaning to newer ships. They are expected to face a whole galaxy and large number of enemy ships. Better to be over prepared.
