....Oh.
So I'm re-reading Conviction, and just got to chapter 10, and realized something. Miyai infected her family with a retrovirus that turned them into Generations. Earlier in the series, Cybi worked with the Kimdori to have Jason altered by a retrovirus to ensure she could never hurt him again. Coincid...

Re: Supership thought
And if you replace all the power generation with Karrine technology, you should be able to power them all as well. ....I just did some math. In chapter 9, the surrendering superships are nine hours away from the nearest habitable planet. As Jason had to ask, I'm going to assume that the distance wa...

Supership thought
There's a quote from Jeconais' "The Banishment of Uzumaki Naruto" which fits this idea quite well, I think: Gai retreated to his normal pose. “The exploding tag was most...” he paused. “Probably youthful,” Kurenai said thoughtfully. “For us, anyway. For our enemies, it would be very unyout...

Re: Conviction chapter 13
Precogs see the future, clairvoyance sees the present and psychometry views the past. That was always my view... then I met Vel. I make it a point to not argue with someone who, you know, has a first person view of such things. And having multiple instances of being able to tell people e.g. "Y...

Re: Capturing a super ship (potential spoilers)
I just realised a huge issue with the super ships. They would be unable to use the star gates and likely catapults. The Karrines could only make their viable as they can combine two FTL systems. So even if the confederation captures a bunch, they would be slow to deploy, and easily tracked. As well...

Re: Conviction chapter 13
I wonder if the shaman can use their mysterious power to heal the damage inflicted on the dreamers. I was waiting for them to bring in a Parri shaman, honestly. I mean... their whole focuse is on _love_, and here's someone who needs healing. And once again I'm reminded my mind doesn't work like oth...

Re: Conviction chapter 13
I thought it had been fairly clear for a while that the Parri might well not have been the only sentient species on their planet.... I think here it is a matter of the degree of intelligence that the oye trees might have. They are certainly demonstrably sentient from their shown interactions with J...

Re: Why bother using mecha to deliver the megatron units?
I'm part way through chapter nine, and something just occurred to me. Why not just build the megatron units into something that can deliver _itself_, remotely piloted? Set it up so that it automatically safely disconnects the pilot just before it fires. I could tell you, but maybe you should read C...

Re: Conviction chapter 13
One thing I've suspected about the oye trees from the beginning is that they are doing something very similar to the Kimdori and the CBIMs by preserving useful knowledge and insights from those under their protection. ...and once again I'm reminded that my mind doesn't work the way everyone else's ...

Re: Conviction Chapter 11 {Spoilers}
An individual atom breaking into two others does release energy. Quite a bit of energy, actually. As long as it's above iron in the periodic table; below that, and the energy it takes to rip the nucleus apart is actually less than the energy released when you do. Similarly, it takes more energy to ...

Sad news
I know there were a few people who followed our stories on here, so I guess I should probably post something.
My wife died last night. I probably don't need to say that our stories won't be continued.
I... I can't do this.

I don't know if anybody knows Mike, who posts a story online called A Spartan's War, but he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer recently. You can find out more at http://www.aspartanswarchronicles.com. You will have to register. What the fuck is up with cancer over the last year? First Bobmin di...

Re: Conviction, Chapter 1.
One quibble that just threw me. This bit is somewhat confusing: The choice of the name Tianne wasn't all that surprising. She was a figure from Faey mythology whose closest comparison to Terran mythology was the Angel of Death, the first child of Aris that wasn't Baaen, the first of Aris' many half-...

Re: Inception, chapter 7.
Hey, Fel, something I've been wondering about since you introduced the experimental 3D shell in chapter 4 (I think) -- a fighter can only fire one shell because the acceleration needed to get the round moving fast enough wrecks the railgun. But velocity is acceleration * time... so if you built a ra...
