Re: The Hobbit
Aw, what? Won't get to see it until the new year I don't think - premieres here in AU on the 26th December.
Tell me you're going to see it in 4k, 48fps (HFR) and 3D?
The local Cinemas here are offering me any two of those at a time - not all three.

@Spec8472 I think the part that you are missing, is the part of personal responsibility. As some people are fond of saying, "actions have consequences", and if people aren't ready for kids, then they should act responsibly and not get themselves into situations where they might very well ...

Do I like abortion? Hell no. I think that it should not be a form of birth control, that it should ONLY be used in the events of rape, incest, or the life of the mother. Safe, legal, and RARE is my view. I really didn't want to get involved in this, but, well... here goes: I believe the view that a...

Updating my 'recently read' list: Pirate Cinema, by Cory Doctorow Brilliant bit of YA fiction set in London a few years into the future where current proposed "Three Strikes" copyright laws have been implemented, and the effects it has on families. Year Zero, by Rob Reid ...it's hard to ex...

Re: Conversation with Eric Flint
Much of this has been discussed before - including the Baen angle. I would think Fel would need to do some work to prep his stuff for consideration. Baen (and other publishers) receive many many submissions. If it's to have any chance of it catching a reviewers eye amongst the piles of crud they nee...

And I am going 14 days on vacation tomorrow early. To Russia, without any kind of internet-connection. Thats evil! Maybe, for once, I should try to find a McDonalds (with free WiFi:) in either Moscow or Saint Petersburg, and have a cup of coffee.. On vacation now (since the 18th August - 45 days to...

The Apocalypse Codex, by Charles Stross (from his The Laundry series - all of which are also good) - currently reading this, but it's very good. Redshirts, by John Scalzi (fantastic take on sci-fi, and references a lot of Star Trek) Robopocalypse, by Daniel H Wilson Amped: A Novel, by Daniel H Wilso...

Ok, the Google Map is... up to date I think. Did I miss anything? PLACES I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THEY ARE: Ascension Island. Seriously...where the heck is Ascension Island? The card just depicts a raher mean looking crab, no geography, and the postage and postmark also read Ascension Island. Pacific Oc...

CX is a bit far to get to... it'd cost me just as much to fly there, as it would for my flight to the UK
Edit: okay, about half as much.

Australia, Tazmania, As much as we joke - Tasmania is actually part of Australia. Although it is true you have to set your watch back upon arrival - about 50 years! *ahem* ;) Side note, if someone asks if you've seen a map of Tasmania just say yes. For those who're more of a visual learning type . ...
