If they sink the ships with valuable or classified tech, they would be forced to assign ships to either stay and watch over the sight or do salvage/destruction duties to ensure that their secrets and advantages stay hidden. regarding Kit... Even if you don't write a new chapter, I would be interested in seeing an outline of what you were thinking for the original plot-line of the story. If you have it available, I would love to see a brief plot summary of where you were first planning to take the story.

Correct, pyroclastic flows are very, very, VERY hot. In the instances where people have been killed by them, they're killed almost instantly from the heat.
