Re: Good Books (Scifi)
Based on this recommendation I bought and read the "Theirs is Not to Reason Why" series. Here is my review of it, for those that care. As far as I can tell the author has only released romance fantasy (you know, the types that involve bare-chested men with 8-packs on the cover) which looke...

Re: How did you learn about Fel/Sennadar?
I was actually referred here, myself -- on a bet, of sorts. It was a few chapters before the last of the Pyrosia books were finished, a guy whose story I was editing at the time got into a discussion about it somehow. Think I was complaining about running out of stuff to read, as I'm a rather swift...

Re: well all things considered
First of all, let me say that is nice to have a debate on something as touchy and controversial as abortion without it quickly devolving into Godwin territory. That said, we can quibble more and I don't think that you are going to convince me of anything further, I don't think that I'm going to conv...

Re: well all things considered
@Seastallion That is the other side of it; does a conceived fetus count as a sentient being so that the termination would count as murder. That is a side I can see to a certain point, though I don't necessarily agree with it. Up to a certain extent (which I personally consider mid-to-late pregnancy)...

Re: well all things considered
Fel, I agree with the vast majority of you say. Politically, you stated my position almost verbatim. I will say that I somewhat disagree with you on abortion in perspective, if not in law. While I dislike the idea of abortion, I think it is A) not the place of men (of which I of course am one), who ...

Re: well all things considered
I don't think the group is per se racist. There are overtly racist elements in the group (at a lot of events, you can find racist signs and messages amongst the outlying group), but that doesn't mean all members, or even most, are racist. That said, the group is run by essentially rich, old, white g...

Re: well all things considered
I guess the way that I look at it is that, while I'm not an Obama fan, I actively disliked Romney and the entire Republican stance for this election cycle. They floundered between their entire campaign stance being "get Obama out of office!" and saying batshit crazy things (legitimate rape...

Re: Conversation with Eric Flint
I don't necessarily agree with that. There is a fine line, but beyond the normal stuff (spelling, incorrect verbs, grammatical errors, etc.) there is a lot that can be done by a good editor to trim up the story without losing anything from it. I don't think cutting chunks or massive changes are in o...

Re: Conversation with Eric Flint
As a quick rule of thumb, a published book should run ~120k words +/- 10%. That's not to say that rule of thumb never has exceptions (I don't know word count, but I know the Weber's Safehold books in general, and the last one in particular, were huge). Something the size of these books would need to...
