I know. I was trying to be sarcastic Oh, you missed the sarcasm tags. I guess even here its nigh impossible to see the difference Actually, you'll see a quite significant improvement in performance by switching to SSDs, pretty much regardless of what your use-case is. Disk wait times on a machine w...

Re: This is not my month.
I didn't think my XP office would install on a 64 bit system. You can always run a 32 bit version of a software on a 64 bit OS but not viceversa. (although, technically speaking, you will be compromising on the 'optimal performance' of the software  ) For office software, there's not really an...

Re: This is not my month.
Interesting. I'm willing to give 8.1 a fair chance before I go there. It's just WAY WAY different from XP or 7. Well, when you decide it's the steaming heap of crap it really is... :) Windows 7 ISO Downloads (legit! legal!) Windows 7 boot tool (Yes, it says 'download tool', that's a lie) - Copies t...

You have downgrade rights in your 8.x license.Fel wrote:It came with 8.1 installed. If I have too many issues, I'll just go buy 7 from Newegg and "downgrade."

Caution: Addictive Game ahead.
I mentioned 2048 on twitter a fortnight ago. Game doesn't seem that entertaining at first, but jebus it really eats up the time. Managed to get the team hooked on it, and just yesterday Fel was cursing my name for mentioning it.

Equoid - (Laundry Files Series) - MLP Fans pay attention.
Technically this belongs in the Good Reading section, but it's worth pointing out seperately. Charles Stross has a series of books called The Laundry Files . Very good read, the lot of them. I only just stumbled over [Equoid](http://www.tor.com/stories/2013/09/equoid), which is a free-to-read novell...

Re: the economics of charity
I'd suggest looking at (http://www.codecademy.com/learn), or [Khan Academy](https://www.khanacademy.org/) for free learning tools. As for free 'compilers' - I think you need to step back for a bit and think about development tools. They're the most important bit, what your compiler is (or interprete...

Install everything except bulk-data on the SSD that you can fit. SSDs tend to have a short lifespan, but that comes with the territory and doesn't matter too much about your typical write-load. All our servers at work are SSD based, except for the archival/backup ones. Even the big-arse reporting/da...

Enders Game Movie (Contains Spoilers)
So, I just went to a 10am Sunday showing of Enders Game. It's only just opened (on 5th) A few observations: There's no 'gold class' (adult/small cinemas/serves alchohol/food/etc) showings near me, like Despicable Me 2, and there's few showings in the larger theatres. This indicates they're not expec...
