Re: Links to Good Reading (Part 2)

And (whatever its called when two words sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meaning) errors. Mind went blank on the name. Homophones if the pronunciation is the same, but the spelling and definitions are different (to, too, two) Homonyms if the pronunciation and spelling a...

Re: Earth Bond Chapter 19 Discussion (spoilers!)

Have to say that I'm of the same mind. Waiting between chapters disrupts the flow of reading, and the longer it is in between chapters the greater the disruption. If chapters are coming fairly regularly it isn't a huge deal, but if several months pass it is hard to keep the thread of a story (much l...

Re: Lawyer Carreon vs the Internet, via The Oatmeal

I have to say my favorite part so far is the following line in the lawsuit Carreon actually filed: "In order to initiate an Internet jihad against Plaintiff and FJ, Inman unloaded the contents of his “Hitler’s porta-potty” on Plaintiff and FJ..." This has to be the first time a line like t...

Lawyer Carreon vs the Internet, via The Oatmeal

So, has anyone else been following the strange case of the lawyer that didn't know when to stop digging a hole for himself? Here is the summary version. A year ago, The Oatmeal, who is a web comic creator (whose stuff I had never heard before all of this of but whose actual work I actually find kind...

Re: I'm curious

I don't think that this time period had as much effect on science as you seem to think, but I do have to admit that I'm not that familiar with the time period. At this time, the Church dominated European culture and governance. Most of what I think of from the Renaissance is the art, not the science...

Little late with this but Mad Mike Williamson's "Better to Beg Forgiveness" is now up for free download in the Baen Free Library: http://www.baenebooks.com/p-662-better-to-beg-forgiveness.aspx Also a rumor about a new Prince Roger (Empire of Man) book in the works. It seems that when John...

A Galaxy Unknown series by Thomas j. Deprima, series has 8 books now, follows a young ensign as she finishes military college in the year 2266, very much like "C.S. Forester's popular Horatio Hornblower novels, this series offers a slightly larger-than-life military officer whose involvement i...

Re: Faey/Alien race

John Ringo put it best when he said "Aliens are alien." If you look at the different types of animals on Earth you can see a wide range of basic behavior, and the type of social behavior that you see from humans is just one more type, albeit a bit more evolved thanks to human sentience. Di...

yes, but you'd have to hunt to find them. I won't help you! In other words, either they were written for material gain and I refuse to cut off the income I receive for them, tiny though it may be, or else I'm not proud of the stories I wrote under that nym. What caugh my attention more is the bit a...
