Re: Shifters, test chapter.
I like it so far. Though I'd like a main character to be a little less perfect. Some personality flaws are generally a good thing (and allows for some cheap character development down the line .

Re: Earth Bond
A few small things concerning water and pressure that bugged me: In chapter 5: "the body fizzing like a carbonated soda as suspended air in the blood was wrung out of it like a wet rag" Water can actually dissolve more gas at higher pressure (the reason the soda fizzes is because the press...

Re: Shadow Walker, chapter 20.
Good chapter. No biting.
Just pointing out that it would take something truly extraordinary to turn a stone soggy.
Also the (mis)use of the word kerfuffle hurts my teeth.

Re: Tribulation, chapter 6.
Thanks!
But but... I have to get up in seven hours and work. Not fair!
Guess I can read a little now to take the edge off.

Re: Tribulation(spoilers ) chap 2
When it says that a planet is twice the size of some other, is that twice the diameter, twice the surface area or twice the volume? I'd assumed volume, since that's seems to be what we normally mean when talking about the size of something without specifying, but then this came along: "Zyagya P...

Re: On the origin of species (interplanetary edition)
We were just simplifying it to use as an analogy, I don't think anybody who's actually observed the variability in eye colour would believe it's that simple. Eye colour is the standard example of dominant/recessive genes (probably more because it's easily observable than because it's a very good exa...

Re: On the origin of species (interplanetary edition)
Since the Child has Brown eyes any pairing that he has with a Blue eyed Human will again produce a Brown eyed Child. Actually that is wrong, it's perfectly possible for two brown eyed people to have a blue eyed child. If we keep it to the simple example: A child of one blue eyed parent (that is, a ...

Re: On the origin of species (interplanetary edition)
I think you're reading entirely too much into the quote from Dr Boss, and still manage to missread what is there. He's not saying they'll be inhabited by lifeforms identical to what Earth was like three billion years ago but: "...things which are perhaps more common to what Earth was like three...

Re: On the origin of species (interplanetary edition)
Actually I think his statement "But I think that most likely the nearby 'Earths' are going to be inhabited with things which are perhaps more common to what Earth was like three or four billion years ago." sounds quite right. The vast majority of life on earth is bacteria and in more extre...

On the origin of species (interplanetary edition)
I guess this must have been discussed before, but since I can't find the topic I'll start a new one to satisfy my curiosity. The subject is of course the similarity between the human and faey species (or subspecies), in particular the genetic similarity, and the origin thereof. I don't know if it wa...

Re: Unification - Chapter 4 - Spoilers
The short part about relativity is a bit off. I don't mind pseudo-science in fantasy, but special relativity isn't anything new or strange. To travel one light year, one needs at least a tiny bit longer than one year (a massive object can get arbitrarily close to the speed of light but never quite r...

Re: Something I don't understand with Hybrid cars.
Which is where your car gets its heating system from. Using the heat as a source of energy for other things though is problematic. Efficiency is dominated by the difference in temperature between the hottest and coldest parts of the system. Inside an engine compartment there is nothing cold enough ...

Re: Something I don't understand with Hybrid cars.
Reading through this thread (particularly Borsic's very well thought through replies) it struck me that there is one form of usable energy available in the car simply because of the inefficiency of the engine/generator: thermal. As I'm sure anybody who's opened the hood after driving has noticed, th...
