By "link to good reading..." I thought it is the thread to have links to on-line reading (where you can read the whole short story/novel/series).

NOPE SHADOW SORRY. JUST A LINK ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND HER WORKS, SO THAT SOME ONE CAN SEE WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. DIDN'T INTEND TO CONFUSE YOU. YOU HAVE TO BUY THE BOOKS BUT YOU CAN READ EXCERPTS OF THEM ON THE SITE.
IF ITS IN ALL CAPS "DEAL WITH IT!"
Have a good day or night or something.

This is a bit of an old post but I just started reading these forums and came across this link to what seems like it will be a very good story. I generally download story files to my harddrive (when possible) so I can have something to read when I'm not online however chapters 9 and 16 keep giving me a file not found error. Does anyone know of another place this story can be found? or have an offline copy of those two chapters they can send me?? I'd rather not start the story and have to skip a chapter heh.

That's easy: When you look at the actual links, you'll see that they are all .php links, _except_ chapters 9 and 16, which are still .htm.
So the solution is to replace the .htm with .php:

Enjoy!

The links to chapters 9 and 16 are bad - replace the .htm with .php.

Sci-fi: "Fan fiction"

The Best of both universes : http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1987010/1/

A crossover between Babylon 5 and Star Trek. Stranded in another galaxy, Captain Walker must make a new home for his crew and fight ancient enemies.

A Thin Veneer : http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1944628/1/

Captain James T. Kirk Chancellor Gorkon rescues a group of Human refugees from the far side of the galaxy. That simple act of kindness will be the spark a war that ranges across the galaxy and reveal the thinness of the veil that separates civilization from (crossover Star trek / Babylon 5 )

Derelict : http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2644549/7/

Waiting for eons in an unclaimed Star System of the Milky Way Galaxy, one of the last great inventions of the Ancients will show the way home for one people and bring two Galaxies into an all out war…(Stargate SG:1 and SG:A and Neobattlestar galactica

BROKEN CIRCLES INTERTWINED
http://forum.spacebattles.com/showthrea ... 564&page=1
A Babylon 5 / SG (technology and so forth) ((edit : woops ))
Extremly well written, any fan of Babylon 5 should check this one out.

Homeworld fan fiction :
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=2918

Some very good Sci-fi stories here, based on the game Homeworld.
Recomendation: Outside and Naggarok's Children

I know of a few more but I'm lazy and most of the stories above are 100-200 k words and more.

fantasy: "Fan fiction"

Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures Past
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2636963/1/

The war is over. Too bad no one is left to celebrate. Harry makes a desperate plan to go back in time, even though it means returning Voldemort to life. Now an 11 year old Harry with 30 year old memories is starting Hogwarts. Can he get it right?

Make A Wish
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2318355/1/

Harry has learned the prophesy and he does not believe that a schoolboy can defeat Voldemort, so he decides that if he is going to die then he is first going to live.

^^^^Very funny^^^^^

There a few of the stories/fan fiction that I have enjoyed reading, some of them may have already been posted in the thread, but I am almost sure not all of them....anyway enjoy.

Sorry if there was someplace in specific I was supposed to make my first post, but I didn't see one, so I'll just go ahead and reply to the thread that caught my interest enough for me to register here. Well, I would've registered once I finished Firestaff anyway so that I could gush over what a wonderful universe has been created in it, but this thread made me register when I'm only about halfway through "Honor and Blood".

And just for the record, I started reading the Firestaff Series about a week ago, so forgive the latecomer any mistakes he makes, eh?

Anyway, one book I definately wanted to suggest was John Dies At The End (or JDATE as I've seen it called) available at http://www.johndiesattheend.com

The only warning I have about it as far as accessing it, well, it has some extremely strong language, so if you're viewing from work - even on your lunch-hour or break or whatever - you may well want to instead wait until you get home. That warning made, my personal view of the book is that it's brilliant. It is surreal and yet realistic. Bizarre, yet somehow comfortingly familiar. I've already suggested the book to all my friends, just as I've been doing for Firestaff since I finished the first chapter. :P

For your own piece of mind, I suggest reading "John Dies at the End" in a day if you can... I've been kind of busy so I had to read it in parts, and the nights when I was partway through it I had some disturbing dreams. Little monsters with blonde wigs indeed.

DaBear wrote:Found a good site recently. http://www.modern-legends.net/ It has two original pieces of fiction and some fanfiction of various genre's; Buffy, Star Wars and a couple of others.
I really like his Fires of Justice series, its a fantasy adventure story without to much in the way of fluff, while there is some romance in it, it's mostly an action/adveture story with magic and Gods.
The only downside is his speed of posting, or lack of if you know what I mean.
His other original series A Time of Heros is a superpower story. It has an original origin (say that five times fast) ;D to comic book style heros and villians. This is more lengthy then Fires of Justiceat around 100 chapters or so.

I've just recently noticed that this site seems to no longer be up and running. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone had any information on why the site is down, or perhaps where I could find copies of his "Fires of Justice" and "A Time of Heroes." I've done several searches on the net with no luck. Hopefully it didn't all just vanish in a puff of smoke...

Anything anyone could tell me would be great, thanks.

Found them over at http://www.geocities.com/modern_legends/
Some of the links there are dead ends & an Email to the indicated person bounced.

A Time of Heros is 141 chapters at http://www.geocities.com/gryffonseyrie/
Fires of Justice is 20 chapters at http://www.geocities.com/fires_of_justice/
